Why Do Sales Teams Lag in AI Adoption, and What Closes the Gap?

Sales lags because most AI tools sit outside the work that matters most in sales: live conversations with buyers. BCG's 2026 AI at Work survey found sales and operations trail support functions in frontline AI use, and that redesigning workflows end to end creates more value than adding tools. For sales, that means putting AI inside the meeting itself, before, during and after the call. Nayak is built for that workflow.

Who It's For

For CROs, sales operations and enablement leaders whose AI rollouts have stalled with frontline sellers.

  • Teams that bought AI licenses reps rarely open.
  • Leaders whose AI tools help with admin but not with selling.
  • Sales operations teams planning a workflow redesign, not another tool.

The Problem: AI Tools Sit Beside the Work, Not Inside It

BCG surveyed close to 12,000 frontline employees, managers and leaders across more than a dozen markets for its fourth annual AI at Work report, published in June 2026. Frontline AI use jumped to 74%, up 23 percentage points from 2025. But support functions led, and sales and operations lagged.

A likely reason: much of a seller's most important work happens live, in meetings with buyers. A tool that drafts emails or researches accounts helps around the edges. It doesn't help in the moment the deal is won or lost, so reps see it as optional.

BCG reports that organizations reshaping workflows create more value and a better employee experience than those focused only on deploying tools. It also found that strategic clarity matters more than tool access: employees with clear direction but limited tools outperform those with strong tool access and no direction.

How to Redesign the Sales Meeting Workflow Around AI

  1. Start with the meeting: Map the buyer meeting cycle, from prep to live call to follow-up, as the core workflow to redesign.
  2. Prep with context: Give reps a brief built from what happened in earlier meetings, not a blank page.
  3. Support the live call: Put guidance in the meeting, where judgment calls happen.
  4. Capture what the buyer said: Record needs, concerns and commitments automatically, so nothing depends on rep notes.
  5. Connect the rest of the stack: Feed that meeting data to the CRM, deal reviews and other agents.
  6. Be clear about the goal: Tell reps what the redesign is for, such as better conversations and fewer stalled deals, not just more AI use.

How Nayak Fits a Redesigned Sales Workflow

Nayak works across the whole meeting cycle instead of beside it. Before the call, reps get insights from earlier meetings. During the call, Nayak's real-time human judgment guidance and EQ surface buyer signals and optional hints. After the call, the Meeting Quality Report and meeting-to-meeting summary capture buyer intent, what the buyer said they need and what both sides committed to. Through Nayak's MCP server, that data can reach a team's other AI tools.

Questions about AI adoption in sales

  • BCG's 2026 survey found sales and operations trail support functions in frontline AI use. Many AI tools help with tasks around selling but not with live buyer conversations, where much of the work happens.

  • BCG found that organizations reshaping workflows end to end create more value than those focused only on deploying tools, and that strategic clarity matters more than tool access.

  • Treating the buyer meeting cycle as the core workflow: AI-supported prep, guidance during the live call, automatic capture of buyer needs and commitments, and connection to the rest of the stack.

  • Nayak works inside the meeting cycle, with pre-call insights, live guidance and EQ during the call, and Meeting Quality Reports and summaries after it, so reps get help where selling happens.
